Flowers

Flowers have crept up on me.

This is one of my favorites, a sprouted radish! SO stylish…IMG_0498

I have not had a lot of time to garden despite the sunshine and lack of rain here – in fact my gardening time seems to be spent watering, not what you expect in winter in the Bay Area! it is a worry, and makes me more determined than ever somehow to fit a water tank onto my steep slope.

Other activities are winterish, making good bone broths, baking potatoes in the ashes in the wood stove, cuddling the cat who now allows herself to be cuddled. It took only two years! We have settled wonderfully well into the new workrooms, neatly labelled shelves, neatly folded linens, bright and clean and orderly which is not at all how I feel, just how it is! I feel I am chasing to catch my tail half the time, and the other half I catch it and wonder what to do with it. Maybe Shibui and I have more in common than I thought.

  1. I love the flowers, especially the sweet peas which smell heavenly, but refuse to grow in my yard! Glad both you and the cat are settling in to winter and your new work spaces…and so glad to see you blogging again.

It is strange weather we are having here in Northern California isn’t it? While tending my winter garden, I feel like I should be planting the summer garden. I do hope winter comes soon…we need the rain. On another note, my daughter whom attends UCB LOVES the Bay area! She is here now on break but cannot wait to return ‘home’ to the bay…she misses everything about it.

Lovely to read that your reclaimed lower level is working well for you and that your cat now cuddles!
Here in VT, recent rain–yes, heavy RAIN in January–has washed away most of our rare and treacherous ice. Bits of green lawn tease that gardening season is nigh. These non-wintry stretches of deep winter are unsettling; the outside world should be white! But it’s still the season of slowing down and taking (and making) stock. Even blog-posted flowers are a special treat in winter. Thank you.

Well, if you’re going to be crept up on by anything, flowers would be it.

I’m loving the purplish pink running through all three.

And here’s to well stacked shelves of linen.

I was thinking about you the other day (with regard to linen). The radish is WAY cool!
