Did it! Brought home the dates, but they are not in the house, oh no, as they leave a pattering trail of nuggetty little fruits if you so much as breathe on them. They are installed in formal symmetry on the deck, and will be lit as soon as I can remember where I stored the Christmas decorations. I think they look sort of gorgeous just as they are.
The boys are at a jazz club this evening – I was invited, but they’ll enjoy it more without me, and I have had the unusual experience of being Home Alone. What mischief have I got up to?
First thing was to have delicious menudo for dinner, mmm, with plenty of chillies (yes, that is tripe).
Then I put iTunes onto DJ, which produces a constant stream of musical knuckle sandwiches. Tracy Chapman, Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares, Weather Report and Janacek. Bam!
I got out my chop saw, circular saw, jigsaw and planer, and put up the planking on the second living room wall. I left a small side section, having learnt from long years of experience that it is better to leave something really obvious to do, so that at the same time I will quite naturally do all the little tweaks which make it a finished job.
Then I tidied the attics.
I played with fabric, what a busman’s holiday! Navy and white stripes combined with buoy orange, two cushions, and two boxed cushions in subtle, natural colours. The two sorts will have nothing to do with each other.
I put a really stinky but effective treatment on my hair,
I played with matches,
washed the cat’s face with special care,
and it isn’t yet nine o’clock… I’ll set rat traps.
