The week between Christmas and New Year is the perfect time to let the mind wander free – I think. Once we pass the birthdays (Felix used to have an Un-Birthday party June 26 to make up for it) I enjoy nothing more than reading, thinking, doing a spot of sewing, some experimentation certainly – even what you could at a stretch call admin, but at such a gentle pace that it creates a spirit of relief and pleasure (note to self: why can’t I always work like that?!) Wood fires and candles.

So, I can now print sample pages instead of writing them out by hand, we have streamlined some over-heated prose on the web site, my papers are sorted and Stefan has an exciting addition all set up but still under wraps. I have forgotten where the tv is, barely glance at headlines. The cat is feeling that at last she is properly appreciated. The house smells fresh and clean, and I love the way the low light comes right in and shimmers off the polished floor into the back of the house so everything appears to have an inherent soft glow. A kindly light.

  1. This is one of my favorite weeks of the year, too. Somehow, this year it’s not quite as mellow as I had hoped, but that’s OK.
Your home looks absolutely beautiful. Happy New Year!
