A Hilly Scene

It is crucial to return again and again to the things that haunt you, over the years.  This is one of them – ‘A Hilly Scene’ by Samuel Palmer, drawn to my attention by David Dulley (who painted the hamster) all those years ago.  He has works in San Francisco: I will see them.

I can understand the power it has over me, by why this morning?  Because it is the solstice?  Because it is raining and I can feel the rain soaking into the precarious hills along the ridge?  Because I was sorting out my colours yesterday evening?
