Found Stowage

Living in this little house is like being on a boat – we use storage space as we find it.

I first saw these shelves over doorways in Peri Wolfman’s wonderful book, A Place for Everything, which I still read from time to time to sooth ruffled spirits. This tiny hall outside the bathroom holds the built-in linen closet, all fifteen inches of it, has shelves above both doorways, a hook on the door for a there-are-visitors-and-I-am-naked emergency robe, and a rack made from driftwood which holds a straw hat, my grandmother’s big old hand-spun linen drawstring bag full of lavender, a posh nightie from my friend Louise (http://louisemitchell.com/), and Felix’s épée to retrieve the loo rolls.
