It started when my Fireslate kitchen counters were delivered in substantial crates I couldn’t bear to throw out, so I put them on the kitchen wall above the upstand. It looked so authentic that I covered the pressed Masonite on the wall behind the cooker then went on to do Stefan’s bathroom walls and several ceilings, insulating as I went.

To paint or not to paint – that is the question. I whitewashed the ceiling in the porch which looks cool and appropriate with the driftwood mirror, white linen sofas and putty walls. The sealed wood behind the cooker irks me, looks unfinished beside the painted planking between the upper and lower cabinets.

I even planked the fridge, but it looks awfully BROWN doesn’t it?
